There is no universally better platform, only a better fit for your situation. The right answer depends on your catalogue size, your budget, your team, and how much control you want.

Shopify is the faster path. Hosting, security, payments and updates are handled for you, and the admin is simple enough for a non technical owner to run daily. You pay a monthly fee and, on some plans, transaction fees. It suits brands that want to sell quickly and not think about maintenance.

WooCommerce gives you more control. It runs on WordPress, so you own the whole stack and can customise almost anything, and there are no platform transaction fees. The tradeoff is that you are responsible for hosting, security and updates, which is exactly what a maintenance plan is for.

If you already have a WordPress site with content and traffic, WooCommerce usually wins because you keep everything in one place. If you are starting fresh with a product first business, Shopify usually wins on speed to launch.

Whichever you pick, the things that decide sales are the same: clear collections, strong product photography, honest shipping information, fast pages and a short checkout.
